The Indian men’s basketball team will begin its campaign at the FIBA Asia Cup 2025 Qualifiers against hosts Kazakhstan on Friday at the Republican Velodrome in Saryarka.
Placed in Group E alongside the Islamic Republic of Iran (rank 27), Kazakhstan (rank 68) and Qatar (rank 104), world No. 81 India will be looking to book a place among the 16 teams that qualify for next year’s FIBA Asia Cup in Saudi Arabia.
The Indian hoopsters will host Iran at the KD Jadhav Indoor Stadium in New Delhi on February 26. All the basketball matches will be available on live streaming in India.
Under Serbian coach Veselin Matic, the Indian basketball team will be led by Amritpal Singh with India’s tallest player Palpreet Singh Brar as his deputy during Window 1 of the FIBA Asia Cup 2025 Qualifiers which will be held from February 22-26.
There will be three windows to decide which teams compete at the 2025 FIBA Asia Cup. The next two windows are in November 2024 and February 2025.
India will depend on the experience of Amritpal, Muin Bek Hafeez and Vishesh Bhriguvanshi. Princepal Singh, the only Indian who was part of the Sacramento Kings side that won the 2021 NBA Summer League title, is a part of the squad too.
In all, there are 24 teams which have been divided into six groups of four. The top two teams in each group will make it to the final round in Saudi Arabia next year, while the six third-placed teams will play in another qualifying tournament for the final four places.
India will take on Qatar (November 22) and Kazakhstan (November 25) during Window 2. During Window 3 of the competition, Iran will host India (February 21, 2025) and play Qatar (February 24, 2025).
India’s best finish at the FIBA Asia Cup came in 1975 where they finished fourth. In the last edition, hosted by Indonesia, the Indian basketball team finished 16th.

Live streaming of the FIBA Asia Cup 2025 Qualifiers will be available on the official FIBA YouTube channel and on Courtside 1891 website. There will be no live telecast of the basketball matches in India.
