Jessica Gadirova admits to "tough and long journey ahead" after suffering full ACL tear at World Championships

Gymnast <a href="https://olympics.com/en/athletes/jessica-gadirova" target="_blank">**Jessica Gadirova**</a> revealed on Sunday (15 October) that she suffered a **"full tear" of her anterior cruciate knee ligament** at the <a href="https://olympics.com/en/sport-events/2023-fig-artistic-gymnastics-olympic-qualifier-world-championships-antwerp" target="_blank">World Artistic Gymnastics Championships</a> earlier this month.

The reigning European all-around champion injured her knee in the warm-up for the individual all-around final in Antwerp and called it "a freak accident performing a gymnastics prep not one of my competition skills" on her Instagram page.

The Briton added, "I'm still taking time to process this myself and I know it’s going to be a tough and long journey ahead. At this point I don’t know for sure how long but I’ll be doing everything I can with the support of those around me to return to the sport I love as soon as I can."

Gadirova joins twin sister [**Jennifer**](https://olympics.com/en/athletes/jennifer-gadirova) on the injury sidelines and now faces a battle to achieve full fitness for the <a href="https://olympics.com/en/olympic-games/paris-2024" target="_blank">Paris 2024 Olympic Games</a>.
