Bobsleigh

Bobsleigh

Bobsleigh is a winter sport in which a crew of one, two or four push and manoeuvre a sleigh on an ice track to the finish line as an individual or a team.

From the starting line, the athletes push the sleigh as quickly as possible whilst getting themselves inside the sleigh in order. It requires enormous sense of balance and agility for them to push the sleigh at full speed and, at the same time, to get on board in order. After the sequence, the pilot takes the handle to manoeuvre through difficult curves as the sleigh slides down the track at the highest speed of 150km/h. The braker pulls the brakes as the sleigh runs past the finish line, to round off a race. The sleigh is made of steel and other materials such as glass fibre or carbon fibre, and recent models consist of lightweight iron shards, steel blades and a fuselage in a more aerodynamic shape.

In the Winter Youth Olympic Games Gangwon 2024, the events include Men’s/Women’s Monobob.
