Khelo India University Games 2024 is being held across the seven north-eastern states of the country. The multisport meet kicked off on February 19 and ends on February 29.

The ongoing KIUG is the fourth edition of the event, which is conducted by the Indian government’s Khelo India initiative, which promotes and encourages sports at the grassroots level.

Like the Khelo India Youth Games and Khelo India Winter Games, the KIUG also operates in a team championship format, wherein the medals earned by individual athletes contribute to the overall medal tally of their respective universities or educational institutes.

Upon the event's conclusion, the university securing the highest count of gold medals is declared the winner.

Over 200 Indian universities are competing for the KIUG 2024 title. Around 4,500 athletes are vying for 822 medals - 245 gold, 245 silver and 332 bronze - in 20 sports.

This is the first time that the KIUG is being held in northeast India. Assam is hosting the majority of the events while weightlifting is being held in Arunachal Pradesh, archery in Tripura, men’s football in Mizoram, men’s boxing in Sikkim, wrestling in Nagaland and yogasana events in Tripura.

Of the three KIUG editions so far, Chandigarh’s Panjab University have won two and are also the defending champions. Karnataka’s Jain University is the other winner.

Here’s how the KIUG 2024 medal table shaped up at the end of the day.
