Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar beats world record score at shooting trials

Tomar shot 466.4 in the men’s 50m rifle 3P final for the top spot in Bhopal. The current world record, held by Czech shooter Jiri Privratsky, is 461.1.

Tokyo Olympian Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar bettered the world record score in the men’s 50m rifle 3 positions event in India’s national shooting trials held at the MP State Shooting Academy ranges in Bhopal on Monday.

Tomar aced the trials with a score of 466.4 in the final. The current world record, held by Czech shooter Jiri Privratsky, stands at 461.1. Niraj Kumar came second in Bhopal with 460.9 while Goldie Gurjar was third with 445.6. 

The trials, conducted by the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI), were held for Group A shooters, comprising the top-ranked marksmen and markswomen from the country.

Tomar, India’s most successful shooter at the Asian Games 2023 with two gold, one silver and one bronze, also leads the NRAI’s Qualification Ranking for the Olympic Games (QROG) list in the 50m rifle 3 positions. 

The top five Indian shooters as per the national rankings on February 29 will earn the right to take part in NRAI’s final selection trials for the Paris 2024 Olympics. So far, India have secured 19 of the possible 24 quotas in shooting for the upcoming Summer Games. 

R Narmada Nithin won the fourth trial for the women’s 10m air rifle. Neha overcame two seasoned opponents to win the third trial in the women’s 25m pistol by shooting 251.8. Asian Games medallist Ashi Chouksey came second after a shoot-off and Nisha Kanwar was third with 229.1.

In the women’s 25m pistol, Neha claimed the crown with 31 hits in the final. Rahi Sarnobat was second with 29 hits and Anisa Sayyed was third with 22.
