Indian javelin throw ace Neeraj Chopra, the reigning Olympic champion, will shift his training base to Antalya, Turkey from South Africa's Potchefstroom after his proposal was cleared by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports’ Mission Olympic Cell (MOC) on Thursday.

Chopra will be at the Gloria Sports Arena in Turkey from the first week of March to the final week of May. The reigning Olympic and Asian Games champion will be accompanied by his coach and biomechanics expert Dr Klaus Bartonietz and physio Ishaan Marwaha.

Neeraj Chopra and his team moved to Potchefstroom on December 5 last year and will continue training there till February 29 before shifting base to Europe.

Chopra was last seen in action at the Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou, the People’s Republic of China, where he successfully defended his crown.

The 26-year-old is yet to compete this season and is expected to return at the Doha or the Rabat leg of the 2024 Diamond League season in May.

Later this year, Neeraj Chopra will have to defend his title at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

The MOC also extended assistance to shooters Anjum Moudgil, Niraj Rajput and Ramita to aid the trio’s participation in ISAS Dortmund in Poland and Germany. Ramita will then head for Pellet testing in Germany.

Similarly, table tennis players Sreeja Akula and Archana Kamath will head to Beirut, Lebanon to take part in WTT Feeder and WTT Feeder 2 events as part of their training for Paris 2024.
