The wrestlers of the United States claimed four gold medals on the first day of the wrestling event in Santiago, Chile.
The 2016 Olympic wrestling champion Kyle Snyder secured his third consecutive Pan American gold medal defeating Arturo Silot of Cuba in the men’s 97kg final at Santiago 2023 on Wednesday (1 November).
27-year-old Snyder, who also won Olympic silver at Tokyo 2020 in 2021 for Team USA, has struggled with injuries in this Olympic cycle. However, he still managed to take bronze at the World Championships in September.
Now with another regional title for the Americas in the bag, the three-time world champion is turning his mind to Paris 2024.
"I like coming to the Pan Am Games. It gets your mind ready [for] what the Olympics will be like," Snyder said according to ESPN.
"My next thing is just take a little break and get back on the main train. We've got the holidays, then there's a couple of tournaments, one in January, one February. I need to get ready for the Olympic trials, April 19th and 20th. That's what I'm going to be looking forward to getting ready the most."
Snyder’s U.S. compatriots completed a clean sweep of gold medals on Wednesday, as Mason Parris won gold in the 125kg class, Zane Richards won the final in the 57kg event, and Tyler Berger claimed the title in the 74kg category.
