What is the À la Croisée des Jeux podcast?

The Olympic Museum has released its first podcast series: À la Croisée des Jeux (At the Crossroads of the Games).

À la Croisée des Jeux, the series that brings sport and culture together, exploring the influence of the Olympic Games on you, on us, on our imaginations and on society, produced by The Olympic Museum.

Season 4

Episode 1: À la Croisée des Jeux / Pierre Morath: The history of the marathon

As part of the exhibition Free To Run - on the road to the Paris 2024 Marathon, the first podcast of season 4 looks at the history of the conquest of personal and social freedom through the example of running and the marathon, from its first appearance at the Athens 1896 Olympics to the Paris 2024 Mass Participation Marathon.

 

Episode 2: À la Croisée des Jeux / Kathrine Switzer: Fearless Marathon legend

As part of the exhibition Free To Run - on the road to the Paris 2024 Marathon, the second podcast in season 4 explores how women's personal and social freedom was won through running, thanks in particular to some trailblazing women in the 1960s.

As part of the exhibition Free To Run - On the Road to the Paris 2024 Marathon, this podcast looks at the emergence of runners in East Africa from the 1960s onwards. It examines the anatomical and physiological aspects of these runners, giving us a better understanding of the challenges facing our bodies when running.

Season 3

Episode 1: À la Croisée des Jeux / Julien Glauser: Skateboarding in the city

As part of the "Riding the Olympic Wave" exhibition, the first podcast of season 3 takes a look at one of the new sports on the Olympic programme, skateboarding, and its relationship with the urban environment. Julien Glauser, social anthropologist, urbanologist and long-time skateboarder, talks to the Olympic Museum.

 

Episode 2: À la Croisée des Jeux / Rylsee and Marion Pollaert: Creativity and New Olympic sports

Tying into the Riding the Olympic Wave exhibition, the second podcast of season three explores the links between urban sports and artistic creativity. Anouck Grau, the curator of the Riding the Olympic Wave artistic exhibition, examines these themes in the company of Swiss artist and skateboarder Cyril Vouilloz, aka Rylsee, and French sport climber and artist Marion Pollaert.

 

Episode 3: À la Croisée des Jeux / Skateboarding, more than a discipline, a lifestyle

As part of the "Riding the Olympic Wave" exhibition, this talk explores skateboarding’s unique lifestyle and the links between skateboarding, art and culture. Participants discuss how the new sports at the Olympic Games, particularly skateboarding, are more than just athletic disciplines – they are also unique sporting cultures.

 

Episode 4: À la Croisée des Jeux / Sport and Urbanism: The city as a playground

The practice of new sports in the urban environment is very common, and the practitioners of these disciplines have a particular view on the exploitation of outdoor spaces. The point of view of sportsmen, but also of some designers of so-called public spaces (urban planners, architects and engineers), demonstrates the immense impact that these practices have on the city.

In the framework of the Rêver en blanc: the epic story of the Olympic Winter Games exhibition, the first podcast of season 2 takes a look at the history of the Olympic Winter Games Chamonix 1924. The Olympic Museum hosts Cultural Projects Manager Mrs Laure Decomble, and Mr Eric Fournier, the Mayor of Chamonix-Mont-Blanc, who tell us all about these Games.

  

 

 

Episode 2 : À la Croisée des Jeux / Ann Duffy: Sustainability at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games

 

In the framework of the Rêver en blanc: the epic story of the Olympic Winter Games exhibition, the Olympic Museum hosts Mrs Ann Duffy, Chief Sustainability Officer for the 2010 Games in Vancouver, to talk about these Games.

  

  

 

Episode 3 : À la Croisée des Jeux / Jean-Loup Chappelet: History and challenges of the Winter Olympic host cities

 

In the framework of the Rêver en blanc: the epic story of the Olympic Winter Games exhibition, the third podcast of season 2 welcomes Mr Jean-Loup Chappelet, Honorary Professor at the University of Lausanne and IDHEAP, to talk about the history of the cities that have hosted the Winter Games, and the challenges facing them today and in the near future.

The Olympic Museum chats to Stéphane Beaujean, the Curator of the Sport X Manga exhibition. Stéphane provides an introduction to sports manga, the values associated with it and the impact it has had on sports practice in Japan.
