World Athletics Indoor Championships Glasgow 24: Preview, schedule and how to watch
For three days, the world’s top track & field stars will compete for global indoor titles in Glasgow, Scotland in the 19th edition of the World Athletics Indoor Championships. From 1-3 March, the best athletes in the track & field world will compete for glory in Glasgow, Scotland at the World Athletics Indoor Championships.
A total of 651 competitors from more than 130 nations will battle for global honours and prove they are in prime form ahead of the Olympic Games Paris 2024.
Over the course of three days, 26 events will be contested, including 13 for women and 13 for men, with many of the biggest athletics stars on the planet vying for gold, silver and bronze medals at the 6,500-capacity Emirates Arena in Dalmarnock, Glasgow.

Athletes to watch at the World Athletics Indoor Championships
As expected for such prestigious championships, the field for Glasgow 24 has world-class talent everywhere you look.
A total of 18 gold medallists from the last Indoor Worlds will be in action, as well as seven reigning Olympic champions and numerous world record holders.
The men’s 60m will see reigning 100m and 200m outdoor world champion Noah Lyles aiming for gold. Given the fact he has won six world outdoor titles, it is perhaps a little surprising that Lyles has never won indoor gold. Yet, in a year in which he has said is aiming for “all the Olympic medals” at Paris 2024, the shorter sprint distance will give him an invaluable opportunity to work on what he considers to be the weakest part of his skill set: his start.
Lyles’ biggest challenge may come from within his own team, as world record holder Christian Coleman aims to regain the gold he won back in 2018. Coleman claimed silver last time out in 2022 in Belgrade, so the battle for gold in Glasgow may well be epic.
Glasgow 24 will be a home championships for the British team and even more so for the Scottish contingent with Team GB.
Of those, Laura Muir and Josh Kerr will be among the favourites for gold, with both running in the 3000m in Glasgow. World outdoor 1500m champion Kerr comes to the championships fresh off of setting a new world record of 8:00.67 in the indoor two-mile but will need to see off the challenge of Ethiopia's Olympic 10,000m champion Selemon Barega if he is to triumph at home. Olympic silver medallist Muir will also be aiming for the top step of the podium in a longer distance than she is usually accustomed to.
Speaking of high-flying Brits, Molly Caudery has had an exceptional season so far, setting the current world lead for women’s pole vault on 25 February with a jump of 4.86m. In Glasgow, she will need to be at her very best to overcome the challenge of one of the greatest female vaulters in history, the USA’s Katie Moon, who is the reigning Olympic and two-time world champion in the event.
In the men’s pole vault, Sweden’s Armand ‘Mondo’ Duplantis will be not only a strong favourite for gold but perhaps even aim to break his own world record, which currently stands at 6.23m.
Duplantis is a world record threat whenever he competes but he may not be the only one putting down historic marks in Scotland. The USA’s Grant Holloway broke his own 60m hurdles world record mere weeks ago at the USATF Indoor Championships and will be heavily backed to lower that time of 7.27 seconds during these championships.
One Olympic champion who will be stepping outside his comfort zone is Norway’s Karsten Warholm who will compete in the 400m flat in Glasgow. The 27-year-old is a Tokyo 2020 gold medallist and three-time world champion in the 400m hurdles.
Another athlete who will be swapping the hurdles for the flat track is Dutch phenom Femke Bol who will compete in the women’s 400m. While Bol’s main event may include the obstacles, she is the indoor world record holder at the 400m (49.24 seconds) and will be among the favourites once again in Glasgow.
Other athletes to keep a close eye on include the USA’s world record-holding shot putter Ryan Crouser, St Lucia’s rapid sprinter Julien Alfred in the women’s 60m, and Ukraine’s 2023 women’s high jump world champion, Yaroslava Mahuchikh who will face off against the 2022 champion Eleanor Patterson.
